Dental Materials

„Dental Materials“ is taught in the following semesters: I and II.

ANNOTATION OF THE COURSE:
The course provides an opportunity for acquiring knowledge on the origin, methods of manufacturing, composition and properties of materials used in dental medicine.

FORMS AND METHODS OF TEACHING:

• The course consists of 60 academical hours - representing various forms of load;
• Lectures - 30 hours, Practicals - 26 hours, Workshops - 4 academical hours

EDUCATIONAL FORMS OF ASSESSMENT: Evaluations of seminars, tests, practical and theoretical exams.

KIND OF FORMS AND METHOD FOR TRAINING USED IN COURSE: Lectures, workshops, seminars, exercises.

GOAL OF CURRICULUM:
Learning skills and methods of research composition, properties and processing technology of dental materials and their application in dentistry aid in accordance with European standart for healthcare.

TASKS OF THE PROGRAM:

• learning about the origin and mode of production of dental materials;
• to establish knowledge of the purpose and manner of processing of dental materials;
• to gain knowledge of the composition and properties of dental materials;
• to acquire practical skills for processing of dental materials.

TEACHING AIDS: charts, tests, samples of various materials, models for demonstration.

PREREQUISITES:
Before beginning the education in Department of Prosthetic Dental Medicine students need to have a basic knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics.

RESULT EXPECTATIONS:
After completion of the course, students must have a basic knowledge about the origin, composition, properties and purpose of dental materials. The students have learned the methods of treatment of the main groups of dental materials. The students may properly consider the need of application of a given material in accordance with the requirements of the cours.

• assessing the students throughout the course;
• evaluation of practical work during the semester;
• a test of theory test;
• test results during the session.
