HEAL Georgian visit - „Enhancement of special oral healthcare practice and lifelong learning among dental practitioners in Georgia“

In the period July 1-3, 2024 Georgian delegation composed by the representatives of 4 Georgian universities visited the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University - Sofia in the frame of the 3 years’ “HEAL” project, financed by the Erasmus+ Program. Total of 14 researchers and experts from the European University as a project coordinator, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement have been included in the information visit as previously Turkish and Polish universities have been part of such еvents.
The main objective of the project is to modernise the existing dentistry programme curricula at HEIs in Tbilisi, Imereti, and Adjara regions by updating existing courses with theoretical components and practical approaches for providing oral healthcare services to the people with disabilities, to provide practical training for the students and academic staff and to equip healthcare workers in Georgian regions with lifelong learning training opportunities by developing and offering special training modules.
Comprehensive program has been prepared for the Georgian guests starting with the thorough presentation of the Faculty of Dental Medicine made by Prof. Bozhidar Yordanov, DMD, PhD and visit of the participants to the Faculty’ facilities and equipment. Among the topics which have been presented and discussed were the innovative approaches in teaching, the regulations for continuing medical education of the dental medicine doctors, accreditation process and practical training for students as well as the existing social health care programs and the dental clinic requirements related to the people with disabilities.
Within the three-day program, the delegations from Georgia met with Prof. Tsvetalina Tankova, MD, DMedSc - Vice Rector for International Integration and Project Funding, who presented the Medical University - Sofia and the potential opportunities for cooperation between MU and Georgian universities.
On the last day of the guests’ stay, the participants of the “HEAL” project visited the most famous cultural and religious site in Bulgaria - the Rila Monastery, highly appreciated by the Georgian delagation.
