On Sunday, 30 November, the Medical University hosted the inaugural edition of what will now become an annual tradition, the Medical Universities 6-a-Side Football Tournament. A total of 12 teams participated, representing all year groups across both faculties: six teams from Medicine and six teams from Dentistry.
 

The event was organised by two dental students, Adam Amin and Basel Salah. With the invaluable support of Vice Dean Professor Marinova, Vice Rector Professor Deliverska, the Medical University Student Council, and the Bulgarian Dental Students Association, they successfully coordinated this memorable tournament, all in support of raising funds for the Children’s Hospital “Prof Dr Ivan Mitev.”

This year’s tournament was further enriched by the involvement of staff members from both the Medicine and Dentistry faculties. Many professors attended throughout the day, and several took on active coaching roles for the student teams. From the Dentistry faculty, Professor Marinova coached the 4th Year Dentistry team, while Professor Deliverska guided the 1st Year Dentistry students. Dr. Slavcheva led the 2nd Year Dentistry team, and Dr Bonchev coached the 5th year dentistry team. On the Medicine side, Vladimir Ivanov from the Department of Language Education and Sports coached the 3rd Year Medicine team, Professor Stoynev from the Medical Faculty coached the 2nd Year Medicine team, and Dr. Ivan Angushev, also from the Medical Faculty, coached the 1st Year Medicine students. Their dedication, encouragement, and presence on the sidelines brought a strong sense of unity and community to the tournament.

The competition followed a full tournament structure, beginning with group stages and progressing through the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final. All teams demonstrated outstanding skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. A major highlight of the tournament was its focus on inclusivity, with each team uniting Bulgarian and international students from the same year group, playing together to help their year group win the tournament. 
 

The final match featured 4th Year Medicine against 3rd Year Dentistry, with 3rd Year Dentistry emerging as the champions.

Winners (3rd Year Dentistry), captained by Sarim Noman:
Amaan Mallu, Yusuf Arshad, Iman Azimi, Ehsan Azimi, Taha Qureishi, Al Faisal, Haris Alam, George Kechris, and Alex Kashefi.
 

The final was an exciting and competitive match, with goals scored by Amaan Mallu, Yusuf Arshad, and Ehsan Azimi, securing victory for 3rd Year Dentistry.

    •    Best Goalkeeper: George Kechris
