The annual winter camp and the ski and snowboard competition “Rector’s Cup” in Bansko was traditionally organized by the Department of Language Education and Sports at Medical University – Sofia.

The competition began with an official ceremony organized by the Municipality of Bansko, welcoming the bronze medalist from the Milan–Cortina Olympic Games, Tervel Zamfirov, the sensation in women’s snowboarding Malena Zamfirova, and one of Bulgaria’s greatest snowboarding prospects, Aleksandar Krashnyak. The distinguished athletes demonstrated their skiing and snowboarding skills with spectacular runs down the Shiligarnika slope.

The patron of the event, the Rector’s Cup – the Rector of MU-Sofia, Prof. Dr. Boycho Landzhov, MD, opened the sports competition with a welcoming speech and made a representative descent of the slope. 

The Mayor of the Municipality of Bansko; the Chief Secretary of MU-Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vidin Kirkov; Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Anzhelika Velkova; Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ventsislava Pencheva; Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Elitsa Deliverka; Vice-Rector Prof. Krasimira Yoncheva; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Bulanov; the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Boyko Bonev; the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Corr. Member Prof. Georgi Momekov; and the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health “Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, DSc,” Prof. Aleksandrina Vodenicharova were among then offficial guests of the event. 

Fifty students from various faculties and units of MU-Sofia took part in the winter camp. A total of 22 women and 19 men competed in the 2026 Rector’s Cup ski and snowboard competition.

Ski – Men:

1. Martin Zamfirov – Faculty of Medicine
2. Hristiyan Stoykov – Faculty of Dental Medicine
3. Radoslav Balinski – Faculty of Dental Medicine

The Student Council of MU-Sofia provided significant support in organizing the winter celebration.
