Pediatrics and Dentistry in a Unified Context: Early Prevention and Quality of Life
This programme aims to create an interdisciplinary educational framework that connects paediatrics and dentistry in a unified approach to child health, with a strong emphasis on early prevention, health promotion, and long-term quality of life. The main objective is to strengthen the understanding that oral health is an integral part of general health and that timely cooperation between paediatric and dental professionals can significantly improve children’s physical development, nutritional status, psychosocial well-being, and overall life outcomes. During the BIP we will explore the relationship between systemic paediatric conditions and oral health, including the impact of early childhood nutrition, feeding habits, medication use, congenital and chronic diseases, oral hygiene practices, and family health literacy. Special attention will be given to early detection of risk factors for dental caries, malocclusion, enamel defects, periodontal problems, oral habits, and developmental disorders that may affect both oral and general health. The course will also address the role of preventive counseling for parents and caregivers, the importance of coordinated care pathways, and the need for evidence-based communication between paediatricians, dentists, and other health professionals.
