HISTORY of the department „PROSTHETIC DENTAL MEDICINE”

In June 1943 in the Dental division of the Medical faculty of Sofia University they established the „Department of dental dentures” headed by associate professor doctor Georgi Stilyanov. In 1951 the „Department of dental dentures” was renamed to „Department of orthopaedic dentistry”. The first assistants that were employed in the department were doctor Mihail Balabanov and doctor Boyan Boyanov.
In 1991 the „Department of orthopaedics and orthodontics” was divided into „Department of prosthetic dentistry” and „Department of orthodontics”.
In 2007 the „Department of prosthetic dentistry” was renamed to „Department of prosthetic dental medicine”.

Career
1926 – Graduated dentistry in Halle, Germany where he used to work as an assistant and chief doctor until 1934
1934-1943 – Head of the dental division to the Bank hospital and personal dentist of the royal family
1943 – After the opening of the Dental division to the Medical Faculty he was elected as associate professor and head of the department of orthopaedic stomatology and managed it until 1959
