HISTORY of the department „CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY”
Conservative dentistry has been taught since 1942 when the dental department at the Medical Faculty of Sofia University was opened. In 1946, Prof. Dimitar Svrakov founded the department of Therapeutic Dentistry where conservative dentistry and periodontology were taught.
In 1998 the department was divided into the Department of Conservative Dentistry and the Department of Periodontology and Oral Mucosa Diseases. Since 2001 year by now at the Department of Conservative Dentistry “Dental Physiotherapy” has been taught. The department has the necessary equipment for carrying out physiotherapeutic procedures.
From 1990 to 2007, Professor Boris Indzhov was the Head of the department of Conservative Dentistry.
In 2007 Prof. Slavcho Dimitrov becomes the next Head of the department.
Today, prof. Radosveta Vasileva is a Head of the Department.
The Department of Conservative Dentistry is actively involved in the teaching of its discipline in English language. Dental students begin to study conservative dentistry in their second academic course.
