The students' training in Conservative Dentistry begins from the IV until the X semester. It is performed in two stages:
First Stage – from IV to VI semester - is represented by a phantom course in Operative Dentistry and Endodontics, in which students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the instruments, the principles of classical cavity preparation, different obturattion techniques and materials, preparation of endodontic access, intracanal treatment procedures-measuring the working length of the root canals, cleaning, shaping and obturation of the endodontium, restoration of endodontically treated teeth.
Second stage – from VII to X semester - the training of the students includes clinical work on patients for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of non-carious and carious diseases of hard dental tissues, as well as their complications.
Since 2000/2001 year the free elective discipline “Dental Physiotherapy” has been taught for students of V and VI courses in one academic semester. Since 2010 this discipline is introduced as a mandatory one during winter semester, fifth course. At the end of the semester there is a practical exam, and the theoretical exam is carried out during the winter exam session.
The Department of Conservative Dentistry also provides postgraduate education for the acquisition of the specialty „Operative Dentistry and Endodontics“. The duration of the specialization is 3 years on a specific vocational training program.
The Department also conducts one-month individual training on a certified program The courses are held twice a year with predefined topics.
The third form of postgraduate training is represented by thematic five-day courses for 5 to 8 people, with pre-registration. These specializations are paid.
