Clinics of Conservative Dentistry

 

Clinics of Conservative Dentistry is a part of the educational program of VII, VIII, IX and X semester.

ANOTATION:
Clinics of Conservative Dentistry is the second stage (from VII to X semester) of the education in the field of operative dentistry and endodontics. It includes clinical work with patients, diagnostics, treatment and prevention of noncarious and carious diseases of hard dental tissues and their complications.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS APPLIED IN THE COURSE:
Clinics of Conservative Dentistry has been taught by lectures and exercises.
Multimedia lectures have been given by the professors and associate professors at the department. They upgrade their lectures every year and include lots of photographs, videos, figures which visualize the theory which has been taught. The students earn theory knowledge which is very important for the clinical work with patients.
Practical exercises have been held in the clinical rooms of the faculty. These rooms are equipped with everything needed for the education- phantom heads, dental units, instruments and materials Students learn practical knowledge and skills in recognition of basic diagnoses and differential diagnose. They learn to apply contemporary methods for anaesthesia.
Students apply clinically the principles of cavity preparation and obturation methods. The last semester ends with a practical exam which lasts four exercises. Tests, seminars and discussions are used during the education for control of the students` knowledge.

AIM OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM:
The aim of the education is introducing the students to basic diagnoses, methods of anaesthesia, prevention and treatment of carious and noncarious diseases. Clinical application of cavity preparation, medication and obturation. Clinical application of endodontics- endodontic accsess, root canal preparation, medication, obturation and post-endodontic restoration.

TASKS OF THE PROGRAM:

  • introducing students to the patients documentation;
  • diagnostic decision based on a correct anamnaesis, clinical and paraclinical examinations;
  • learning the anaesthetic methods applied in the field of conservative dentistry and endodontics.;
  • education in preparation of cavities according to the principles of cavity preparation and according to the clinical situation;
  • clinical preparation for medicationof the dentine wound, pharmecodinamics of different medications;
  • earn skills in obturation of cavity preparations following different methods and materials;
  • improving knowledge for correct diagnostics, adequate endodontic treatment and restoration of endodontically treated teeth according to the clinical finding and principles.

PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS:
Students must have been passed successfully the theory and practical exam in Preclinics of Conservative Dentistry.

EXPECTED RESULTS:
After the clinical course the students should be able to take anamnesis, to make correct diagnosis, to apply anaesthesia, to prepare basic cavity preparations according to the clinical situation and diagnosis (carious, noncarious dieseases), to apply correct medication of dentine wound. They should create esthetic and functional restorations. Regarding Endodontics they should be able to plan correctly the endodontic access, measure working length, prepare an fill correctly root canals, plan correctly the post-endodontic build-up.

FORMS OF STUDENTS` ASSESSMENT:

  • Control of the practical work done on the phantom models and extracted teeth;
  • Seminars;
  • Tests;
  • Practical exam at the end of sixth semester;
  • Written and oral exam.
