Admission of International students

 

 

Application Documents Required:

  • An Application Form in English and Bulgarian language (it can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia both in Bulgarian and English);
  • A legalized copy of secondary education diploma with a certified translation in Bulgarian. Candidates must have grades in Biology and Chemistry in their secondary education diploma by the Ordinance on State Requirements for Admission of Students at the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • A legalized document with a certified translation in Bulgarian, issued by a competent authority (a secondary school in which the secondary education has been completed) to verify the applicant’s right to continue his / her education in all degrees of higher education in the country of secondary education acquisition.
  • A copy of a valid document proving citizenship (not residence).
  • A medical certificate issued within one month before the date of application, with a certified translation in Bulgarian.
  • Two (2) passport size photos in color attached to the application form.
  • A declaration form in Bulgarian and English for the authenticity of the submitted documents, duly signed by the applicant (the form can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia).

If the applicant cannot submit his / her application documents personally, a power of attorney should be submitted. The power of attorney should be legalized, with a certified translation in Bulgarian. If issued on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, the power of attorney should be notarized.

Tuition fees & taxes:

Submission of documents: 70 BGN, fee to be deposited at the Rector’s Office Pay Desk.

Guidelines for self-training in Biology and Chemistry in English and in Bulgarian: 30 BGN, fee to be deposited at the Rector’s Office Pay Desk.

Fee for the exams in Bulgarian/English, Biology and Chemistry in Bulgarian/English: 400 BGN, fee to be deposited at Department of language training and Sports (DLTS).

  • Training at the Center of Language Training, Physical Training and Sports in the Preparatory Academic Year in Bulgarian language: 3 700 EUR.
  • Training at the Center of Language Training, Physical Training and Sports in the Preparatory Academic Year in English language: 4 800 EUR.
  • Training in “Dental Medicine” in Bulgarian language: 7 000 EUR per year, fee to be deposited at the relevant faculty. 
  • Training in “Dental Medicine” in English language: 8000 EUR per year, fee to be deposited at the relevant faculty.

Admission Dates & Deadlines:

Admission of EU and EEC and Confederation Switzerland citizens:

  • Deadline for admission of documents: from 15.07.2021 to 08.09.2021
  • Competitive exam in English, Biology and Chemistry – September 11th, 2021 (Saturday)
  • Announcement of the results of the competitive exam – September 13th, 2021

Note: In case when one of the components of the exam is not being passed successfully, the test shall be considered as failed. 

Placement: September 14th, 2021 

Announcement of results: September 13th 2021  

Announcement of the placement of students from EU States and the EEA  – October 14th 2021.  

Individuals from EU and EEA shall be placed on the grounds of a total score, formed as the sum of scores in Biology and Chemistry of the diploma for completed secondary education and of the grades of the competitive exam in English language, Biology and Chemistry in English. Maximum total score: 30.00 points.   

The placement of individuals from EU and EEA is carried out on the grounds of art . 21, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Act on places, approved by the AC of Medical University – Sofia under the proposal of Deans of faculties and in accordance with the free capacity of the specialty.

Note: In case when one of the components of the exam is not being passed successfully, the test shall be considered as failed.

The results of the written papers are final and shall not be subject to re-assessment!

Enrollment  of  1st year students who shall attend the English course for the majors Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy – until October 25th 2021.  

 

Additional Information

Admission of third-country nationals
Admission of foreign nationals from a non-EU and non EEA countries, as well as the Swiss Confederation / third party / shall have:

  • Admission of documents: from 01.06.2021 to 30.09.2021;
  • Competitive exams in English, biology and chemistry in English – 09.10.2021 only for candidates who have received a type D visa and have arrived in the country by 07.09.2020. Those who arrive after this date shall be enrolled in a preparatory study year in the Department of Language Training and Sports / DEOS / at the Medical University – Sofia in English or in Bulgarian speaking course according to their choice;
  • Announcement of the results of the competitive exam – October 11th 2021.

TO THE ATTENTION OF APPLICANTS FROM INDIA!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India has informed about the requirement of the Medical Council of India for the admissibility for training of Indian citizens in foreign medical universities. According to this decision from 2018 every Indian citizen, who wishes to receive medical education abroad , is required to fulfill the relevant criteria for eligibility by passing the required test (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test: http://ntaneet.nic.in/ntaneet/) and get relevant certificate of eligibility (Eligibility Criteria), where it would be specified , that he/she meets the requirements for training in a high medical school (Eligibility Criteria for admission to the MBBS course).

It is also stated in the note that these certificates shall be valid for 3 years.    

In connection with the above for the academic year 2020/2021. CS- Delhi has the intention to require the presentation of Certificate of Eligibility (Eligibility Certificate) upon submission of documents for long-term study visa from the applicants in Medicine. 

 

Medical University – Sofia

Admission of applicants with dual citizenship 
Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens (after an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry, as for the Bulgarian candidate students).
Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, who have completed their secondary education in an EU member state or in EEA and who have chosen to study a major in English shall be admitted in accordance with Art. 21, Para 2 of the Higher Education Act by sitting an entrance exam in English language, and an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry in English. Once admitted the students shall pay an annual fee which is fixed for the Bulgarian nationals enrolled under a paid form of education plus the tuition fee for the different specialties conducted in English. The amount of the fees due is set by a Decision of the Academic Council for the respective academic year.
Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state or from EEA (third country), but who have completed their secondary education in the Republic of Bulgaria, regardless of their second nationality, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens.
Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state or from EEA (third country), who have completed their secondary education abroad, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the order determined for the non-EU member state citizens (third country), so they can pay 50% of the fee for the foreign citizens.
