Admission of International students

 

 

Application Documents Required:

  • An Application Form in English and Bulgarian language (it can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia both in Bulgarian and English);
  • A legalized copy of secondary education diploma with a certified translation in Bulgarian. Candidates must have grades in Biology and Chemistry in their secondary education diploma by the Ordinance on State Requirements for Admission of Students at the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • A legalized document with a certified translation in Bulgarian, issued by a competent authority (a secondary school in which the secondary education has been completed) to verify the applicant’s right to continue his / her education in all degrees of higher education in the country of secondary education acquisition.
  • A copy of a valid document proving citizenship (not residence).
  • A medical certificate issued within one month before the date of application, with a certified translation in Bulgarian.
  • Two (2) passport size photos in color attached to the application form.
  • A declaration form in Bulgarian and English for the authenticity of the submitted documents, duly signed by the applicant (the form can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia).

If the applicant cannot submit his / her application documents personally, a power of attorney should be submitted. The power of attorney should be legalized, with a certified translation in Bulgarian. If issued on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, the power of attorney should be notarized.

Tuition fees & taxes:

  • Submission of documents: 70 BGN - to be deposited at the Rector’s Office Pay Desk;
  • A self-study guide in Biology and Chemistry in English and Bulgarian: 30 BGN - to be deposited at the Rector’s Office Pay Desk;
  • A 40-hour preparatory course in Biology and Chemistry in English: 600 BGN - to be deposited at the Rector’s Office Pay Desk;
  • Exam fees for an entrance exam in Bulgarian/English language, Biology&Chemistry in Bulgarian/English: 400 BGN - to be deposited at the Department of Language Training and Sports (DLTS);
  • A preparatory course in Bulgarian at the DLTS: 3 700 EUR;
  • A preparatory course in English at the DLTS: 4 800 EUR;
  • Training in “Dental Medicine” in Bulgarian: 7000 EUR per annum - to be deposited into the bank account of the Faculty of Dental Medicine;
  • Training in “Dental Medicine” in English: 8000 EUR per annum - to be deposited into the bank account of the Faculty of Dental Medicine.

Admission Dates & Deadlines:

  • Document submission of third-country nationals (outside the EU and EEA) - 03.06.2019 - 30.09.2019;
  • Document submission of EU and EEA nationals - 15.07.2019 - 12.09.2019;
  • First preparatory course in Biology and Chemistry in English - 19.08.2019 - 23.08.2019;
  • First exam date for an entrance exam in Bulgarian/English language, Biology&Chemistry in Bulgarian/English - 24.08.2019;
  • Second preparatory course in Biology and Chemistry in English - 09.09.2019 - 13.09.2019;
  • Second exam date for an entrance exam in Bulgarian/English language, Biology&Chemistry in Bulgarian/English - 14.09.2019;
  • Third exam date for an entrance exam in Bulgarian/English language, Biology&Chemistry in Bulgarian/English for third-country nationals (outside the EU and EEA) ONLY - 04.10.2019.

Note: All ending dates should be considered as included in the time interval.

Results & Rankings:

EU and EEA nationals are ranked by a score that is summed by their high-school grades in biology and chemistry and their grades from the entrance exam in English language, Biology&Chemistry in English. The maximum score is 30.00.
The ranking of EU and EEA nationals is based on Art. 21, para 2 of the HEA, according to admissions affirmed by the Academic Council of MU-Sofia, as reported by the Faculty Deans in correspondence to the admission capacity of the specialty.
Note: If one of the components of the exam is failed, the exam is considered unsuccessful (not passed).
Candidates who are not admitted can enroll in a preparatory language course and an extensive course in Bulgarian or English language by the Department of Language Training and Sports (DLTS). They should submit an application form to the Department of Students' Education at MU-Sofia-Rectorate until 31.10.2019.

 

Additional Information

Admission of third-country nationals
Documents of third-country nationals shall be admitted by the Department of Students’ Education, then processed and sent to the Ministry of Education and Science. Upon the reception of a Certificate of approval by the Ministry of Education and Science for a D-type Visa, the candidate shall be informed by the Department of Students’ Education, following a visa issuing process.
Applicants who have submitted their documents after 02.09.2019, upon the reception of a Certificate of approval by the Ministry of Education and Science and an issued D-type Visa, shall be enrolled in a Preparatory Academic Year at the DLTS to study English or Bulgarian, according to their choice.
Applicants who have received their D-type Visa until 05.09.2019 incl. and wish to start their first year of studies can enroll in preparatory courses in Biology&Chemistry in English, organized for EU and EEA nationals. They can also take the entrance exams on the dates set thereof.
Additional entrance exams in Biology and Chemistry in English will be held on 04.10.2019.
Note: Admission is organized for applicants who have received their D-type Visa and who have arrived in the country until 30.09.2019. Applicants who have arrived after this date sign up for a Preparatory Academic Year at the DLTS to study English or Bulgarian, according to their choice.

Admission of applicants with dual citizenship
Students with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other one from an EU/EEA member state, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens (after an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry, as for the Bulgarian candidate students).
Students with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other one from an EU/EEA member state, who have completed their secondary education in an EU/EEA member state, and who wish to study in English shall be admitted by Art. 21, Para 2 of the Higher Education Act by sitting an entrance exam in English, and an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry in English. Once admitted, the students shall pay the fixed annual fee for the Bulgarian nationals admitted under a paid form of education plus the tuition fee for English education (International Students). The amount of the fees due is set by a Decision of the Academic Council for the respective academic year.
Students with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other one from a non-EU/non-EEA member state (third-country nationals), but who have completed their secondary education in the Republic of Bulgaria, regardless of their second nationality, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens.
Students with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other one from a non-EU/non-EEA member state (third-country nationals), who have completed their secondary education abroad, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order determined for non-EU/non-EEA member state (third-country nationals), shall pay 50% of the fee for the international students.
