Admission of International students

 

 

ADMISSION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS  -  NEW

 

Application Documents Required:

  • An Application Form in English and Bulgarian language (it can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia both in Bulgarian and English);
  • A legalized copy of secondary education diploma with a certified translation in Bulgarian. Candidates must have grades in Biology and Chemistry in their secondary education diploma by the Ordinance on State Requirements for Admission of Students at the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • A legalized document with a certified translation in Bulgarian, issued by a competent authority (a secondary school in which the secondary education has been completed) to verify the applicant’s right to continue his / her education in all degrees of higher education in the country of secondary education acquisition.
  • A copy of a valid document proving citizenship (not residence).
  • A medical certificate issued within one month before the date of application, with a certified translation in Bulgarian.
  • Two (2) passport size photos in color attached to the application form.
  • A declaration form in Bulgarian and English for the authenticity of the submitted documents, duly signed by the applicant (the form can be downloaded from the website of MU-Sofia).

If the applicant cannot submit his / her application documents personally, a power of attorney should be submitted. The power of attorney should be legalized, with a certified translation in Bulgarian. If issued on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, the power of attorney should be notarized.

Tuition fees & taxes:

Administrative Fees for services for reception of foreign citizens:
Fee for submission of documents – BGN 70. Paid at the cashier’s office of the MU – Sofia, Rectorate.
Fee for transfer of foreign students from Higher Medical Schools abroad in the specialties of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy at the Medical University-Sofia in the amount of BGN 200 with VAT. Paid at the cashier’s office of the MU – Sofia, Rectorate.
Price of the Training Manual for self-preparation in biology and chemistry – BGN 30.00. Paid at the cashier’s office of the MU – Sofia, Rectorate.
Fee for the entrance exam in English, Biology and Chemistry – BGN 400. Paid at the cashier’s office of the MU – Sofia, Rectorate.

Note: Entrance exams will be held in face-to-face or online distance forms depending on the epidemic situation in the country and the orders of the Ministry of Health and officials authorities.

  • Training in the Language Department for foreign students in a preparatory year in Bulgarian – EUR 3.000
  • Training in the Language Department for foreign students in a preparatory year in English – EUR 4.000
  • Training in “Medicine” and “Dental Medicine” in Bulgarian – EUR 7.000 per year.
  • Training in “Medicine” and “Dental Medicine” in English – EUR 8.000 per year.

 

Admission Dates & Deadlines:

1. Admission of EU and EEA nationals and the Swiss Confederation:
1.1. Deadline for receipt of documents: 20.07.2022 to 14.09.2022
1.2. Entrance Exams in English, Biology and Chemistry: 17.09.2022 / Saturday /
1.3. Announcement of the results of the Entrance Exams: 20.09.2022

Note: If one of the components of the Entrance exam is not passed, the exam is considered failed. 

The results of the written works are final and not subject to re-evaluation!

 1.4. Ranking – 21.09.2022
The ranking of the candidates is done on the basis of the summed grades in biology and chemistry from the diploma for completed secondary education and the grades from the three components of the exam. Maximum score: 30.00.

NOTE: All EU and EEA citizens shall present their Diploma for completed secondary education and issued by the Regional Department of Education at Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Bulgaria, Certificate for recognized completed secondary education with grades equivalent to the grades under Article 9, para. 1 of Ordinance № 11/01.09.2016 for evaluation of the learning outcomes of students.

 

Additional Information

Admission of foreign nationals from non-EU and EEA countries and the Swiss Confederation / third countries /:
Acceptance of documents: 20.06.2022 to 16.09.2022
Entrance exam in English, Biology and Chemistry: 10.08.2022 / Saturday /
Announcement of the results of the entrance exam: 10.10.2022

Note: All candidates who have successfully passed the entrance exams in English, Biology and Chemistry in English are accepted.

Start date of the new academic year (in English) for students in the Specialties of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy – 24.10.2022.

Submission of documents for transfer of foreign students from medical universities in the country and abroad – until 20.08.2022 in accordance with item 4 of Section IX of the Regulations for preparation and conduct of the academic year – “RULES for transfer of foreign students – citizens of the EU and the EEA and from third countries at the Medical University – Sofia from other Higher Medical Schools in the Republic of Bulgaria or abroad.”

Admission of applicants with dual citizenship 

  1. Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens (after an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry, as for the Bulgarian candidate students).
  2. Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, who have completed their secondary education in an EU member state or in EEA and who have chosen to study a major in English shall be admitted in accordance with Art. 21, Para 2 of the Higher Education Act by sitting an entrance exam in English language, and an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry in English. Once admitted the students shall pay an annual fee which is fixed for the Bulgarian nationals enrolled under a paid form of education plus the tuition fee for the different specialties conducted in English. The amount of the fees due is set by a Decision of the Academic Council for the respective academic year.
  3. Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state or from EEA (third country), but who have completed their secondary education in the Republic of Bulgaria, regardless of their second nationality, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens.
  4. Those students having dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state or from EEA (third country), who have completed their secondary education abroad, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the order determined for the non-EU member state citizens (third country), so they can pay 50% of the fee for the foreign citizens.
