Clinical Pediatric Dental Medicine

 

„Clinical Pediatric Dental Medicine“ is taught in the following semesters: VI, VII, VIII, IX and X.
Forms of education, used in the course: Lectures, seminars, discussions, clinical cases, clinical study of child with dental disease and treatment of these diseases in children of different ages

ANNOTATION OF THE COURSE
The course of “Clinic of Pediatric Dentistry” has the aim to prepare graduated student for treatment of children. There is a perfect opportunity for acquisition of knowledge about:

  1. Clinical diagnosis and treatment of early childhood caries;
  2. Clinical diagnosis and treatment of caries of permanent children's teeth;
  3. Clinical diagnosis and treatment of pulpitis and periodontitis of primary teeth and permanent children`s teeth;
  4. Features in the clinic, diagnosis and treatment of pulpitis and periodontitis in immature permanent children's teeth;
  5. Dental examination of a child;
  6. Psychological problems and methods for the non-pharmacological and pharmacological influence of the child`s behavior during dental treatment;
  7. Clinic, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of dental dysplasia;
  8. Clinic, diagnosis, and treatment of traumatic injuries of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  9. Epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, clinic, diagnosis and treatment of gingivitis and parodontitis in childhood;
  10. Etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa in childhood;
  11. Etiology, pathogenesis, clinic, diagnosis, and treatment of cheilitis and glossitis in childhood;
  12. Focal diseases in childhood;
  13. Dental treatment of children with physical and mental problems and severe general diseases.

Aim of curriculum: 
The aim of curriculum has these directions: Students have to:

  • diagnose and treat early childhood caries and caries of permanent children`s teeth;
  • diagnose and treat traumatic injuries in both dentition;
  • diagnose and treat pulpitis and periodontitis of primary and permanent dentition;
  • diagnose and treat gingivitis and parodontitis in childhood;
  • diagnose and treat early onset periodontitis;
  • diagnose and treat the most common oral mucosa diseases in children;
  • have knowledge to diagnose and treat rare oral mucosa diseases in childhood;
  • have knowledge of the treatment of children with physical and mental diseases and severe general diseases;
  • have knowledge about the complex approach to the child, as an object of dental prophylaxis and treatment.

Goals of curriculum:

  • To acquire basic knowledge and skills regarding the diagnosis and treatment of caries of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  • To acquire basic knowledge and skills regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pulpitis and periodontitis of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  • To acquire basic knowledge and skills regarding the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic injuries in both dentitions;
  • To acquire basic knowledge and skills regarding the diagnosis and treatment of gingival and periodontal diseases in childhood;
  • To gain basic knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral mucosae in childhood;
  • To gain basic knowledge about the dental treatment of children with physical and mental problems and severe general illnesses;
  • To gain knowledge about the complex approach to the child, as an object of dental prevention and treatment.

PREPARATORY REQUIREMENTS:
The student should have basic knowledge about some discipline to start learning “Clinical Pediatric Dental Medicine”. These are the discipline:

  • histogenesis, morphology and physiology of oral structures;
  • methods and means for prophylaxis of dental diseases.

EXPECTED RESULTS: 
Upon completion of the course, students should know, be able to, interpret, and apply the basic methods and tools to:

  • diagnosis and treatment of caries of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  • diagnosis and treatment of pulpitis and periodontitis of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  • diagnosis and treatment of traumatic injuries of primary and permanent children's teeth;
  • diagnosis and treatment of gingival and periodontal diseases in childhood;
  • diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal diseases in childhood;
  • dental treatment of children with physical and mental problems and severe general diseases;
  • complex approach to the child, as an object of dental prophylaxis and treatment.

Valuation forming – complex from different approach:
Process of continuous assessment, tests, colloquium, practical and theoretically exam.

Forms of evaluation:

Ongoing control - Seminars, colloquia, practical tasks;
Practical exam - At the end of X semester, V course;
Semester exam - Exam session X semester, V course;
State Exam.
