Clinics of Conservative Dentistry is a part of the educational program of VII, VIII, IX and X semester.
EDUCATIONAL FORMS AND METHODS USED IN THE COURSE: lectures, practical classes, seminars, tests, discussions, slides, multimedia presentations, diagrams, models, tests, clinical cases.
COURSE ANNOTATION:
Conservative dentistry course gives the opportunity to acquire knowledge and competences in operative dentistry and endodontics which are necessary for organizing and carrying out a successful dental help.
CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY IS A DISCIPLINE that includes: surgical and restorative treatment of carious and non-carious lesions of hard dental tissues in the sense of surgical dentistry, endodontics and dental physiotherapy.
Operative dentistry gives theoretical knowledge and practical skills about diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of carious and noncarious lesions of hard dental tissues.
Endodontics gives theoretical knowledge and practical skills about diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of dental pulp and periodontal diseases.
The students acquire knowledge and skills about the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, primary and secondary prevention of diseases of hard dental tissues, dental pulp and periodontium.
The training is carried out through lectures with a duration of 2 academic hours / 2 x 45 minutes /, seminars with a duration of up to 1 academic hour, practical exercises with patients with a duration of 5 to 6 academic hours per week.
Successful graduates take semester and state exams.
CURRICULLUM OBJECTIVE:
Operative dentistry gives theoretical knowledge and practical skills about diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of carious and noncarious lesions of hard dental tissues of elderly population.
Endodontics gives theoretical knowledge and practical skills about diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of dental pulp and periodontal diseases.
The acquired competencies enable the organization of dental help in accordance with European standards for medical service.
The students successfully completed the training course at the Department of Conservative dentistry have:
1. Basic knowledge of the biological basis of endodontic diseases.
2. Knowledge of the materials used, medicines, devices, instruments in the field of operative dentistry and endodontics.
3. Possess competencies and modern methods for diagnosis of diseases of the hard tooth structures and endodontics, as well as their complications.
4. Know the theory and practice of treatment methods for the control of diseases of hard tooth structures, endodontics and their complications.
5. Know the means and methods for protection of the staff and the patient from infectious diseases.
6. Have the necessary competencies to seek and implement advisory assistance
PROGRAM TASKS:

ASSESSMENT FORMS:
Continuous assessment - seminars, tests, discussions, clinical cases.
Practical exam - 1. Treatment of one case of caries simplex- Class II cavity preparation and definitive restoration with plastic material.
2. Root canal treatment on one single- rooted tooth- lateral condensation and definitive restoration with plastic material.
Theoretical exam - one written and two oral questions of the Conservative dentistry synopsis clinical course
Other forms - final term’s test
PRACTICAL EXAM RULES
1. The practical examination in a Clinics of conservative dentistry is conducted within 4 clinical exercises (10 academic hours) in the last two weeks of the X semester.
2. In case of failure to complete the practical work required by the department within the time set for the practical exam, the student takes a supplementary exam.
3. Students are not allowed to work overtime in other groups, including in the absence of a patient or time to catch up.
4. In case of two poor marks for stages of Caries simplex treatment or endodontic treatment, the examination is repeated.
5. All students with marks lower than 4.00 have to repeat practical examination in case of failure on their theoretical exam.
